Do LCDs really benefit from 'running in'?

Novice Member

I know this sounds like a silly question, but I read somewhere (can't exactly remember whereabouts) that the picture on LCDs improve as the set gets used. Is this true? At the risk of answering my own question, is it because the LCD crystals improve from 'being exercised' as they are used?

While im here, would I damage the LCD panel if I watched material in 4:3 mode with black sidebars for too long? If this is the case, why can't they make the sidebars grey like they do on plasma screens?
