Having already had one (admitedly cheap Sonix brand) LCD TV go down the swanny, and one LCD Monitor (acer) require repair, should I be considering an extended warranty (or "free" 5 years at JLP) on the replacement LCD TV?

Or, if I buy a "known" brand am I going to be safe without one? I know it is impossible to predict, even the best have an off day, but is reasonable to expect an LCD should last 5 years (or more...) without problems

If you buy it at JL, the question becomes academic.

Anything can break. On the whole, extended warranties (JL aside) aren't good value. Typically, things that are going to break, do so fairly early in their lives, or when they are really life-expired. Rarely in between.

In any case, consumer law protects you to a degree, even after the warranty has expired.
