    Hi guys,

Can any of you DVD experts answer this? I'm wanting a new dvd player to connect to an LCD TV via the HDMI socket. Some of the models I have been looking at seem to be PAL prog scan only. From what I have read on these forums, HDMI only accepts a prog scan signal, so what happens when I want to play one of my NTSC disks? Will it be able to play via HDMI? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I dont want to get a machine which renders my NTSC disks useless.

Get a player that has BOTH NTSC & PAL PS, pretty standard these days but it all depends on the manufacturer.

You should have both. You should also be aware that NTSC progressive has been around for a long time, whereas PAL progressive is relatively recent. For this reason, it's quite possible that a DVD player might announce that it has PAL progressive and not announce that it has NTSC progressive, even though it does have both. So, look deeper into the specifications, than you might find on a retailer's website, say.

Yes, I was thinking that LV$426. The one I really fancy is the new Marantz dv6600 but unfortunately the information on their website is a little ambiguous. The info screen says PAL progressive but on the specs it says NTSC. I've got a feeling it's just PAL though. Thanks for the info.

It would be both. I would be amazed if it were PAL scan only.

    Me Too!!

I can't see how a machine that plays PAL/NTSC and does PAL progressive wont do NTSC progressive! Unless it converts the NTSC to a PAL signal which would then be outputted progressively.

I had a Pioneer that converted the other away around.

It can do both NTSC and PAL.

Cheers for that. I think I'm gonna try one of those when they are available.
