Do DVD recorders have (or need) burnproof or similar technology to prevent buffer under-runs and wasted discs?

I can't seem to find it mentioned in any drive specs

Well my Panny DVD-RAM drive has burn-proof in it.

To be honest, I'd have thought burn-proof should be standard on all drives by now, which might be why it's not trumpeted in the specs so much.

Are there any particular drives you were looking at?

    Cheers

I am about to build a couple of systems - a main home server/workstation and an AV unit for the lounge. I was therefore considering a couple of units at the cheaper end of the market to keep initial costs down.

I have noticed a few cheap Panasonic/NEC/TDK units, but as burnproof was not mentioned, I thought they may be similar to some of the very cheap CD-R units and not have it.

Well, if it helps, the drive I've got is the Panasonic SW-9571 DVD-RAM/RW/R drive. It's the OEM version of (i think) the LDF 521.

The latest Optorite has it and is 4 speed and DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/Rw. All fopr less than £150. Not bad and it's a Sanyo drive to boot.
