Quick question, as asked in the title. The reason for asking is that I was browsing Amazons' site and noticed a number of Blu Ray music discs but some are re-mastered from concerts recorded before Blu Ray was "born". Just wondered how much of an improvement the audio would be over the DVD version mastered from the same source. So, do all discs have HD audio. As an aside, are we likely to see (or rather hear) any Blu Ray Audio discs, like DVD-As?

No I have a couple of Blu-Rays that have standard Dolby Digital soundtracks at best, HD audio is a big improvement over standard DD and DTS.

Cheers folks. So, if I'm browsing Amazon, is there any way of knowing? Couldn't see anything obvious in their listings.

even if the conserts are recorded before the bluray came, the masters they made at that time, picture and sound, have a lot higher resolution and information then what you get on the dvd.
so if they use the master to make the bluray, there are usually the posibillity for a lot better sound and picture.

    Check here Blu-ray Disc Statistics

Think most if not all of them on that list are US discs but any UK discs that I have bought the audio has been the same as the ones on that list.

You may also find that there are quite a few Blurays out there (mainly the older ones) that have multi channel LPCM, (often as well as DD 5.1), rather than the new DD True HD or DTS HD Master formats. This differs technically, but is basically HD audio.
I've been caught up in heavy discussions in the past regarding this, but lets just say it normally sounds better than standard DD & DTS;)

I always thought PCM was better than True HD and DTS MA because it was uncompressed and lossless but it takes up more space on the disc.

Both TrueHD and DTS-MA are lossless :smashin: there are compressed but once decoded will be the same as the original PCM.
    Cheers.

Yes, as I said I've read/been part of some really heavy & techy discussions about this;) :boring:

But like Kingfats said it's basically all good... and better than the older DVD formats.
