DNS is the thing that converts text names eg www.avforums.com to a physical address eg 192.168.0.1 If you are getting a DNS failure then "it" can't find a physical address or "it" can't find the DNS server. I say "it" because you don't say where you are seeing this error or what you were doing to get it.
