Is this model available now, and more importantly can it be made multi-region ? I had a look on techtronics but couldn't find it.

Are you sure RGB have it in stock? I e-mailed them on Sunday and they told me approx two weeks (despite it being on their web site).

What particular features does the E-100 have over and above the HS2?

I'm about to 'take the plunge', but I don't want to miss out on any 'vital' new features!

I can get the HS2 for £550, the cheapest I've seen the '100 is £800. I can't find any '100 info on Panasonic's site by the way.

I'm not hugely bothered by the extra HDD capacity (how much extra does it have, by the way?) - probably not £250 bothered anyway ;), and the HS2 has all the features I think I need, but if there are any vital differences than I might consider forking out more ca$h.

The hard disk on the DMR-E100 is 80GB. Other differences seem to be:-
    MP3 Playback
    DVD Audio Playback (Stereo)
SD Card Reader for JPEG, TIFF and MPEG4 playback
The above list was compiled by me looking at the specs on avland so it may be wrong !!

The core functionality of the E100 is the same as the HS2. Aside from what JohnG stated the E100 just has updated menus and improved DVD playback. At £550 the HS2 is a bargain even with the E100 looming in the background.

What about the Pioneer 5100? It should be under £700 and so lie between the two Pannies' prices. It has an 80gig hdd and uses -RW instead of -RAM.

It has the added advantage of Pal prog scan.

I think I'm waiting for that one.

    Cheers,
    Cal.

So what's the deal with mpeg4 recording/playback? Is this the next "big thing"? If I buy an HS2, will I be kicking myself in 6 months time when everyone is doing mpeg4?

Also, can the HS2 and E-100 play back jpeg pics burnt on a DVD or CD-R?

Check the other thread re this. A few of us have managed to order them. I've just received e-mail confirmation. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it but I can't pass up a bargain. Last one I got was my 50" plasma from EmpireDirect and what a bargain that was :D
