apologies if this has been spoken about before. I just called some people who deal with extended warranties with DLPs to ask whether they actually cover the costs of replacing bulbs.
as a noob to DLPs they said to me they'd only replace equipment inside DLP screens if it wasnt something a typical consumer couldnt replace themselves. I was wondering how easy it is to replace these bulbs?
Also where would I get replacement bulbs for a Samsung SP50 screen?

It is possible to obtain a written confirmation that the bulb will be covered before buying the warranty.
    See this thread.
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=228547

I have telephoned Domestic & General several times since posting on the above thread - the answers varied:
" I'm sorry sir - we do not cover projection televisions. "
" No sir - the projector lamp is defined as a user replaceable part - so it is not covered. "
    " I'm not sure - I will ask my Team Leader. " - she couldn't confirm.
    " Yes - everything is covered. "

I asked the gentleman that stated it was definitely covered to post written confirmation to me.

My suggestion is to obtain clear written confirmation that the bulb is covered before paying the premium.

And that's one of the big problems about lamp life. We have lifespans quoted as ranging from about 6000 hours all the way up to the figures quoted by Samsung UK of 30000-45000 hours.

So, if the 45000 hours quoted by Samsung UK is correct, you'd have to have the TV turned on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for over 5 years before the lamp blows.

Samsung state that lamps can be purchased from a company called CPC and they can be contacted on 0870-120-2530.

Replacing a bulb looks pretty simple. Best thing is to check the manual of the TV your're interested in. See the page taken from the Samsung manual attached. The fact that they include instructions in the user manual would suggest that they expect a typical consumer can replace the lamp themselves.
