    Hello

My friends and I decided we'd tired of Glastonbury, so chose not to attend this year. Instead we're imitating our own instead. Being moderately audio/visual related, I thought I'd share some pics

The field on my friend's farm:

    Our home-made screen:

    Preparing the bales:

Screen upon bales with amp, speakers & satellite dish:

We're eagerly awaiting arrival of a friend & his HD projector to try it all out

    Serious question. Is this legal?

I know there is a big legal difference between even, say playing a CD or DVD for you at home, against showing it to a LOT of people.

I don't suppose anyone will care, well I hope not, but I wonder if you are actually allowed to do this?

Technically, I think they might need a public performance licence if it isn't being shown within the home, even if it's free and only family and friends. That's for the films, not sure about the satellite picture.
Be interesting to know how specific it is, surely you cam watch films in your garden? At what point does a field count as not at home? If it's the farmers DVD, is he still at home?

That's for broadcasting isn't it, rather than receiving?

    Not sure.
Does taking a live stream and showing it, in public to XX number of people amount to broadcasting it?
    No idea.

I'm sure no one is going to take any notice, just the discussion from a theoretical standpoint.
I'm sure playing a CD in public is breaking rules also

No - that's for people there with their phones and internet connections or broadcast vans sending out live streams from the site.

Showing the BBC in a field breaks a different bunch of rules :p

@Coffin No, no, no, don't you dare :) no-one is having a go at you, unless you are concerned that someone in authority will come after you, in which case I can delete it for you.

As far as the forums are concerned if we think someone may be breaking a law or in a grey area it is our moral obligation to point it out. This is one of those grey areas that has stimulated some interesting discussion. It's a fantastic idea and as a member I'm interested to see how it progresses.

We got fed up of how busy Doncaster Racecourse got so we started having race days instead of going to the St Leger Festival. Just a few friends a theme for the day food, drink. Bet online, watch a race themed cocktail, race, cocktail. No queue for the loo. Heaven. So I am now jealous of your idea so may steal it for next year

    Yes please, enjoy your day.
    Should be great.
    We just enjoy exploring scenarios.

I did wonder, if you would need a TV Licence if you watched your neighbours TV in your home, via the use of some projection/mirror or magnication device.

    It's just thinking out loud.
    Have a great time :)

I have to say there are some great ideas here for events where you don't need to go! Think I might try and organise something, if not this year then maybe next year.

we pick a country and people bring a dish and a cocktail. A bit of research and it's amazing what you learn.

Oh man, I spent all morning on 4 phone lines and 3 computers to try and get tickets for this, only to be met with engaged tones and server busy error messages. When I finally got through after 5 hours, all the tickets were gone. I then get onto StubHub and find scalpers selling them for a 400% markup!!!!! Grrrrr!!!

I blame the people running this festival.corporate types, man!

    ;)

    Have fun :)

    A festival essential for you:
