DIY Garage transformation into dedicated home cinema room

Hello!!

I thought i will share few pictures of my home cinema room. It is converted garage in detached house. Room is a bit smaller than the garage because i had to left the back bit for utility room.

My equipment is always changing as it is never good enough :)

At the minute, i am using Optoma UHD51A projector with Denon x4400h amplituner. I run all 11 channels with 7.1.4 setup. I am using my old pioneer avr to power up 2 passive channels on Denon, but this is next on the list to upgrade.

Currently i am in the process of upgrading my speaker setup. On the pictures, i have Jamo s606 FL( this is permanently in the living room with Onkyo 515) and Jamo c60 center.

Surrounds are the mixture of what i already had, on sides Q Acoustic 2020i , rear is some Onkyo speakers from old HiFi.

For Atmos (recently fitted) i am using Monitor Audio CT165 in-ceiling speakers.

To complete this i have BK Monolith + FF sub.

Front stage is being upgraded to Kef Q900 FL (already bought) and Kef Q600C (currently looking for one).

As for surrounds, i am still thinking what will be the best option with this setup (Kef fronts). I am thinking about some dipole speakers as the room is not very big. Any suggestions welcome:)

Great job. Well done. Thanks for sharing your photos. I love the dark walls.
After painting the walls and ceiling with black matt paint, the room became so dark, that even during the day with the blinds open we have to use the lights :D

I think my missus would kill me if I painted our walls black. She was a professional photographer and spent most of her daylight hours in a completely blacked out room with all the walls painted black developing and printing photographs.

You've done a great job with the room, I do recognise the B-tech speaker brackets.

That looks awesome. What are the dimensions of the room? Looks like it was originally a big garage.

Thanks!
Room is 3.10 meters width x 4.8 meters long, and utility room is another 1.6 meters.
I would say this is the standard size for the garage.

When i moved in, the garage was already converted to the room, but the utility room was too large, so i decided to move the wall to make the cinema room bigger.

Interesting. It looks much wider than mine. I’ll have to go and measure!

Nice work man, just a few questions what is the size of your screen? Is that fixed frame ,From the pictures I can see two different projectors ,are they both Optoma? What cables you have used for atmos speakers, halogen free kinda stuff?
Hope you enjoy new setup.
cheers.

Hello!
I have 106" electric screen ( 8ft ). I wish i could install fixed frame, but there is doors to utility room on that wall, so it is impossible.. Current screen is on the next upgrade list!

I changed my projector from 1080p Optoma HD25 (white projector) to Optoma UHD51A, mainly to use 4k blurays with atmos soundtrack, as there is very limited selection of 1080p BR with atmos for some reason..

For ceiling speakers, i used QED low smoke zero halogen cable. I chose 4 core cable, so i ran only one cable for each pair of the speakers, making the installation far easier. I put the cable in the ceiling and then in the wall behind the plasterboard and then underneath the carpet. It was very easy with minimal "destruction". It only took around 4 hours to install the speakers. Also, i had to use fire hoods for each speaker to comply with building regulations for fire integrity of ceilings.
