    I'm looking to upgrade the interconnects between my CD player and AV processor; currently I have Linn interconnects.

    I fancy using DIY recipies and materials for silver interconnects.

    Thinking of using Eichmann silver Bullet plugs for temination, although could be persuaded otherwise.

    I have checked out:

    Chris VenHaus DIY Silver Interconnects

    Homegrown Audio Co

    iHiFi (modified to use PTFE Teflon tubing).

    And thought about modifying this TNT-Audio to use solid silver wire.

    Anyone tried any of these, or have other suggestions for recipes or materials?

    Ordered up some Silver Lace by Homegrown Audio Co.

    Will post results, although went for cheap (slow) posting some may not get them for a couple of weeks.

    but so far...

    They arrived two days after my order, there was no tax or duty -- second item sent via US Postal Service (rather than courier) with same result.

    Kit is excellent and contains everything one needs (including silver solder), parts are neatly sealed in individual bags inside one larger one and silver labelled, also has easy to follow instructions.

    Components look and feel very high quality, silver lace itself is nicely woven, RCA plugs although not WBT are almost exactly the same design but plated in silver then rhodium (nice).

    As far as I can gather, these interconnects are virtually identical spec to Kimber Select KS-1030 interconnect that Russ Andrews sells for £1260 per metre; but these cost £110 per metre (inc shipping) in kit form.

    Unfortunately work has got in the way, and I haven't had time to put them together yet; but plan to next week. I'll post a follow up and comment on how they sound.

    Stoomonster,

    Your cable should be great, can't wait to hear your thoughts. I didn't know that cables could cost as much as £1260 per meter.:eek: That is some crazy sheeeeet.

    Ooops that was the price for balanced XLR version -- of cource ;) -- the RCA plug version is the greatly reduced £1091 for 1 metre of Kimber Select KS-1030 interconnect. And £1116 if you have interconnect attenuated.

    Apologies to Russ Andrews for overstating the price. :clown:

    Wonder how these 10x cheaper -- but same/similar spec -- interconnects will compare?

    In one word: Fabulous.

    Guess the sonics will change as they burn in over 40 hours or so, but immediately apparent as more precise sound than my Linn interconnects. Certainly bought a smile to my face. :D

    Not being an audiophile connoisseur jounalist I find it hard to describe difference; except that music sounds clearer, cleaner and more detailed. Although, to my ears, more a nuance than a step change.

    I also sprayed connectors with ProGold before tightening up.

    Oh, and analgue CD player is Arcam FMJ DV27 and amplification is Arcam FMJ A22 + P25(3) + P35(2); with A22 + P35 bi-amping left and right speakers.

    Edited to add CD and amp details.

    Bit of a bump here, StooMonster, but how did the silver interconnects turn out over the last month or so?

    Cheers,

    Out of interest has anyone used the Maplin Sharkwire silver cable to make an interconnect? They sell single core £15 metre and 2 core £10 0.5 metre.

    The so called Great White Shark is made with WBT midline or eichman bullet plugs. A guide can be found at evildonut:

    Difficult to be specific as I've recently upgraded many things at the same time:
    * Consumer unit, rewiring, bonding, and earthing in house
    * Mains sockets for AV
    * Mains cables, on all components -- nice DIY ones
    * Mains distribution, see other DIY post
    * Dedicated earth-spike for AV
    * Russ Andrews SuperPurifier with MegaClamp option (don't ask)
    * Moved speakers to recommended positions
    * Digital interconnects
    * Silver lace analogue interconnects
    * Spayed all connections with ProGold and all power connections with DeoxIT

    Everything sounds better than it ever has, a lot better; range is awesome and detailed at every frequency. Visuals on the plasma are much improved, almost like a different technology it looks so good.

    When upgrade consisted only of Silver Lace analogue interconnects, it did sound better than Linn interconnects I was using before. There was more detail in the sound.

    Been buying and making things over the past couple of months. :eek: Only plugged it all in together yesterday, as it was too much hassle unplugging and moving everything. :blush:

    How many hours does it take to unplug, move, clean, move, plug in? :rolleyes:

    But, all sounds great -- I will unplug things one at a time to see which has the most difference. :smoke:
