    Hi guys

My first post but having lurked for quite a while an gleaned alot of knowledge form you guys, i thought who better to help me out.

I am looking for a divx/xvid player with USB input for movies but i only have CRT sets at the moment. Scart is the obvious connection i need then, but a couple of the players only now come with HDMI.

My budget is around £50 and below and i am considering the LG DVX392H or the Philips DVP5960 (although it is old)

Am i silly paying extra for the upscaling capabilities of these players and / or are there any cheaper alternatives that will do me for now, and then i will fork out when i upgrade to LCD (waiting for Freeview HD)

    Any comments greatly appreciated.

I was about to say the Philips DVP5990 - but then I realised it never had a scart.

I did not know some of the new DVD players did not have scart?

OK another one for your list is the Toshiba SD580.

In terms of HDMI - you may not need it but there are not that many players that have USB ports and most of them also have HDMI.

That 5990 player is listed on the Philips website with a SCART socket.

I have a 5960 and would recommend one, it's old, gets used almost daily by the kids, plays just about everything and has never put a foot wrong.

Great, maybe 5960 is it then. Prefer in silver anyway for the time being. Anyone know where to get one of these critters from?

There may still be a few 5960's knocking around on the auction websites.
