I am currently using my old FMJ DV27 feeding RGB scart to my Sony 36" crt which does not support component so i am not even watching a progressive scan image.

I am about to buy a HD ready flat panel and was wondering about buying a HDMI player to tide me over until the next gen HD dvd format war sorts itself out.

Is it worth me buying the FMJ model over the DIVA for HDMI image quality?

Audio is better on the 29, but video is pretty close on the 79 and 29. If you have a 27 with the SIL503/4 deinterlacing board I would use that for now, still a very able performer in my book. The difference will be subtle at best.

I an fairly sure it was standard on the 27 but it was about 4 years ago now! I seem to remember it was the first PAL progressive scan player.

Here's a slightly off the wall idea for you...

    Have the DV27A SDI-modified
Feed the SDI output into e.g. a Lumagen scaler, then Lumagen into the display. A Lumagen will also work wonders for Sky quality if you use it, via RGB out from the Sky box.

I've never seen one of these setups myself, but if the opinions of a few respected forum members are anything to go by this should be about as good as DVD playback gets.
