DiVA DV79 do I buy it?

I have the opportunity to get the DV79 DVD player for £430, it is out of warranty but just had a service with a new transport system installed.

Have a look at my current setup, is it worth it or do I go with a new Oppo 981HD? :D

I would heartily recommend it, although you may not see it at it's best with your receiver. It's excellent with CD too. They are available brand new for £600ish I believe at the moment.

Thanks for the help.

Thats the thing that it seems like an excellent price and device however my setup isn't really customed for it to be on full song, by the time my setup is, I will probably be able to afford something awesome!

The on-board dolby and dts decoding is so good you may be better off using it (rather than the receiver's)- so you could get better surround by connecting 6x phono cables, rather than a coaxial. I was not impressed with the build quality, and with its slowness in recognising CD's.

I'm surprised you mention build quality proukakis. I think it's the same as all Diva gear. Not tank like but good enough.

The front panel buttons- mine and few others have sunk into the unit, an ARcam guy even unoficially confirmed it as aproblem with the DV79 case and it is covered under warranty in US- but not here  (I have a thread on htsi somewher)! Hence my move to Marantz... The CD92 and AVR300 don't have the same problem as far as I can tell

I have a DV79 and I love it, I don't think you will find much better at that price.
