I'd personally go for a 32" for that kind of distance

My closest range is about 9 foot I guess and my 37 inch philips is fine at that distance.

When watching DVD's, im usually at about 14' from the screen. 37" would be nice for 2.35:1 films. Ordinarily im slightly closer, maybe 11'-12' and my 32" is perfect for watching normal TV. It also means that I can sit comfortably at much closer distances, say about 4'. Its a personal thing, but for me I don't want the screen in my face and I did previously have a 20" CRT.

Down to picture quality isn't it. Sitting 9 feet from a 37" putting out anything other than pristene, High Quality pictures will be a nightmare.

If you are going to be watching a lot of standard Satellite of Freeview broadcasts then a 37" is too big at 9 feet. Even a 32" can show up crummy digital broadcasts at 10 feet!

However if your preferences lie with DVD's or gaming then, providing you have decent source material and your Sharp is as good as people say it is then go for it.

I have the Sharp LC-37GA4E and have just checked viewing from 9 feet for you and it is fine watching SKY via RGB Scart, DVD is even better on component.

general rule of thumb is sit 4-5 times the height of the screen away from it as a min. TV wise..

But this was based on old screens and the CofC rule for how the eye views things. With new screens and higher resolution this will change if the source is decent
