I need some help please to disprove one of these stupid scare stories that people put on facebook. My missus gets herself very wound up and worried about some of these things, so much so that she cant sleep and its not just a case of me saying dont let it bother you she still lets it.

Ive looked on snopes.com but cant see any reference to it so was wondering if anyone else other sites that they use or other type of info.

The story apparently is one where people follow dog owners home and then put a sticker on their windows which lets 'kidnappers' know that there are dogs inside. They then break in and steal the dogs to use in dog fighting.

She has told me that the two stories she has seen on facebook both reference different towns where this has happened, big red flag for me that the story is rubbish. I know that this isn't happening but I really need to be able to show my wife something to help calm her down.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I've not heard of that one before.
having said that though there has been an increase in dog thefts in my area lately. They have all occurred when the owners have been out walking the dogs and working breeds like springer spaniels seem to be the targets.

Plus, if you think about it, domestic pet animals would not make very good fighting dogs. So what's the point. They are no more likely to steal them for fighting as racing. And they are likely to be pretty poor at both.

Sticker your house up and then when nothing happens to your pets you can prove it was a load of cobblers :D

As funny as that would be the missus would start ordering bars and metal shutters for all doors and windows as well as making me stay up to listen out, just in case!

Apart from the fighting part you could replace 'dog' with pretty much anything (car, handbag, bike, children...). Maybe you could leave fighting in for one of them

There's loads that pop up and are usually well out of date, or completely wrong.
A basic search normally finds the truth.

One recently was the picture of a young man and the caption 'Do not give a dog to this man (rescue centers). He takes dogs to use in dog fights' A search revealed it to be a fake. Don't know about the man, but he might one day get hurt for no reason!

I'd love some dodgy dudes to nick our dog for fighting. He couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag!

If there are any images, put them into google image search.
On a facebook page, saw a photo of a boy in bandages on a hospital bed, and captioned that the boy had been shot in the face by his stepfather whilst protecting his younger sister from rape, and money would be pledged to help his treatment for every repost. Google found the same photo posted years earlier of a boy different age injured in a war area, so fake. Some people so gullible.

You'd have to get ours off his back demanding you rub his belly first, he grumbles and growls loads but he would be useless at fighting.

These Facebook things annoy me, it does seem the networks become more about pointless pages that everyone likes for no reason and then reposts tripe like this, well that and people cheating at 4 pictures one word

She won't sleep at night due to rubbish posted on Facebook? Tell her to get a grip or close her account.

Whenever stuff like this appears on Facebook, I die a little inside- and then block that person's feed. I simply have no idea why people don't seem to be able to apply the simplest tests of credibility to stuff they read online. If you do see people posting stuff like this, send them a link to this Cracked Article and demand they read it from start to finish. It contains swearing and they'll probably think you are being unkind but it will help them in the long run.
