Discrete 5.1.2 lounge cinema

Hi everyone thought I would share my second attempt at a cinema room.

I have been planning this room since we moved in, room is approximately 3.8m x 4.6 plus a bay window, Sorry I don’t have time for a fancy sketch up image of what I am going to do, but will give you a brief description. So the plan is remove the double doors into the lounge replace with single door so we can fit a corner sofa, remove old gas fire and surrounding, replace with a false chimney 3 sided fire with tv mounted above. Screen will drop down in front of bay window.

Using most of my kit from our old house with a few additions (been without a projector for 4 years now) Kit list as follows

Q acoustics 2020i front channels, 2010i rears, 2000ci centre, 2070i sub and q65 ceiling
Optoma hd25
Samsung 55” 4K nowt special
Denon AVR-X3500H
Sapphire recessed 106” screen
Custom
Xbox one
HTPC
SkyQ
Lightwave rf dimming lights
Harmony elite remote

How the room looks with the old sofas removed
First job was turning double door entrance into single.

Next step, start cutting channels for routing of cables, I removed all the coving before but didn’t take any photos but what a job that turned into!

The old gas fire now pulled out, can’t believe how horrible it was behind there. Blocked the hole up and started to build the false chimney with the new fire.

The false chimney wall now ready for plaster, been running more cables as well, down lights all in.
I had a change of idea half way through the chimney, decided i want a wood surround under the fire so had to step it out a bit. I have some oak off cuts from out kitchen work tops so hope to use that, will make sense when I get it done and a photo up!

Evening, feels like we are getting things ticked off the todo list, cables all ran, including phone socket put in behind the media unit, light switch relocated (won’t be using the brass one). Also some massive holes for the projector screen and one for the lift.

Ready for the ceiling to be plastered, helps the wallet when your father in law was a plaster by trade, all holes patched and ready to go!

Latest update, plater dried, tv up and projector screen installed. Couldn’t resist connecting the projector up and having a test run.

This looks great and has given me a few ideas.

I'm hopefully moving to a new house with a 4m x 6m living room, with a fireplace along the 6m wall.

Can I ask why you didn't fit the project screen in front of the TV?

Hi thanks for the comments, basically seating position would have been to close to screen and my projector couldn’t do 106 inches at the distance either. The setup I went for the projector and screen are just about as far away from each other as physically possible to get the image size I needed.

Looking very promising. :)
What colour(s) do you intend to paint the walls/ceiling?
Hi, would have it black for all if it was my decision, but it’s a compromise room, so the walls are dulux denim drift I think and a bit of gold wall paper either side of the chimney breast, ceiling white. Here’s some photos it’s just been decorated.

Very nice :)

Would "she who need to be obeyed" allow a dark ceiling? ;)

I'd agree I'm really surprised with that colour scheme works so well yet if you'd told me you was doing that I'd have laughed I'll be honest... lol... however it looks fantastic tbh, very nice work that chimney breast is a work of art makes the whole room.

Thanks for the honesty 😂, it’s one of the things I like about this forum, people don’t necessarily like what you are planning/have done but that’s fine everyone has their own taste! It’s good to be different, not that the whole chimney breast tv thing has not been done a thousand times, I looked at so many then combined what I liked from others people’s!

Got the led cove lighting sorted out, I have dropped down to one led driver as got my maths wrong, my 18m of strips won’t draw anymore than 3.5amps (24v) when I tested. These drivers can do 8.5amps so one is more than enough!

Hi see below list of parts used for the led strips

Controller from here RGB CCT ZigBee Controller LED... Amazon product
RGBW LED strips from here I am rBTF-LIGHTING 5050 RGBW RGB+Warm... Amazon product
24v driver from Hi-Line Lighting Ltd

I also had to upgrade my mcb for the downstairs lights from a 6amp type B to a 10amp type B as found sometimes when turning the leds on it would trip the breaker, it’s to do with in rush current when the driver powers up from what I understand.
