This sounds really daft but hoping to get reassurance
When you record something on a disc and you press record to copy another show will it automatically start recording from where the last show finished.

It will create a new recording. Each recording is a separate title on a DVD disc. It's not like a video tape, you don't have to fast forward past programme number 1 to get to programme number 2. Programme number 2 is immediately selectable from the start menu. DVD is direct access, it's not sequential access (like videotape).

But in terms of "Will it record onto an area of blank disc rather than over the top of what is already on the disc?" - yes it will.
