    Hi,

My Tosh SD220E seems to have un-multiregionalised itself

Went to play my Sky Captain R3 disc and it said Disc Playback Unauthorized. Great, I thought. It doesn't play R3 DVDs. I was gonna post here to see if there was a solution.

Thought I'd try one of my new R1 discs and now that doesn't work!

Great... My DVD player has now become a Region 2 only unit.

    Any ideas?

    Hi

This was/is quite a common problem with the 220E if you search forum.

To fix the problem you have to flash the DVD player firmware. I have a copy of the instructions but can't find the firmware anymore. The only link is now dead (see below). Perhaps if you search hard enough you maybe to find it on the Internet. I know the firmware works as I upgraded a player about 2 years ago.

Also check out the postings on this forum:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105054&highlight=sd220e

This was the original URL for the firmware:

    http://sd220e.chez.tiscali.fr/

    Toshiba SD220E Instructions for flashing
    --------------------------------------

    Pressing zoom 6 0 6 zoom

Burning the firmware to CD-R (Nero Burning ROM):

1.Burn Image file using the bin file
2.Burn In Disc at once mode
    3.Tick Raw Data

    After Burning :

1.Picture menu and select Pal / Auto

2.Put the burned disc in the tray and wait

3.A message appears, after 15 seconds you may eject the disc

4.Turn off your player and switch it again

    Your lucky day.....

I've found a copy for the firmware on the Interent.

    You can download it from:

    http://www.geocities.com/its_yahell/sd220e.rar

If you have problems downloading or can't unpack the file (it's in .rar format but winzip should unpack it) please leave a message in this thread and I'll unpack the file with winrar.

PS: Do the flashing at your own risk :smashin:
