    All -

I've had a multi-region tosh sd220 for a few months - but it's just started refusing to play all discs. R1, 2, 3 and 4 discs all fail to load with the same error ("disc error" on the player's LED, and "Please Check Disc" on a red bar across the blue welcome screen on the TV). They're all discs I've played before with no problems.

    A couple of questions:
    1. Is this a region problem? So, is that what you'd expect to see when trying to load, say, an R1 disc into an R2-only version of this player?
    2. Do you reckon I could fix it by creating a CD-R with the MR hack & re-loading it? I didn't do the original hack myself - I bought it already MR-enabled.

FWIW, zoom-606-zoom shows me that I have v1.5 R2 of the firmware.

    All advice appreciated. TIA.

Almost certainly your laser has blown. Nothing to do with multi-region.

Phone up toshiba on 01159766958 and they will do a next day swap out.

Then download the firmware hack from

    http://www.geocities.com/its_yahell/sd220e.rar

and follow the instructions in the rar to multi-region your new tosh 200e.

Just called Toshiba, and it's not that simple unfortunately. They're saying they'll only swap out a machine for a firmware upgrade, or if it came from Currys or Dixons. I didn't get mine from there, so they're not prepared to help.

So, back up to TCR I guess...
