Can anyone point me in the direction of a site which lists what discs are compatible with different players?

I need to check a particular set will play a certain disc format.

    Great, thank you.

I now have the problem of working out why my LG player won't play DVD-Rs, even though it should....

Not all DVD-R are equal. Some brands are more compatible than others, so just because your player should play DVD-R's it may have gretaer success with some brands over others.

Have you tried this particular DVD-R in other players you have access to & see if it works in them ?

Also sticking to a 1x or 2x burn speed will increase the compatability with many DVD players.
And how was the DVD authored? Is it 100% DVD complient as some PC software allow you to change the settings that will make it unlikely to play in a standalone player.

    Mark.

The discs (Samsung DVD-R, blue surface) do play on my Philips portable.

I was using DVD Decrypter to burn the video files, so that may be a issue.
