Disc compatibility

Hello,
I am thinking of buying a Toshiba RDXS32 DVD recorder with hard drive, mainly for the purposes of editing and recording of camcorder tapes directly from the camcorder.
When I have made the DVD I would like to give it to my parents who have an old Sanyo SL25 DVD player.
As much as I know, the Toshiba will record on –RW discs and the Sanyo will play –RW recordings.
Am I correct in thinking that this is going to work, and does anyone have any advice on the procedures that I would have to follow?
