Disabling KM Players subtitling

Having used VLC media player for the past few months, I've really enjoyed this easy and intuitive piece of software, but with regards to mkv files, I've always found that my HTPC (AMD 64 5200 cpu, XFX 8600gt, 2 gigs DDR2 800 ram, windows Xp media centre) would always come across the odd 1080 file stutter.
Upgrading from the mobo's integrated gfx card to an 8600gt did little to resolve the problem, Nvidia' purevideo seemed to be the answer but this does not work with vlc player, so on the recommendation of a friend, I downloaded and installed KM player.
My immediate impression was very favourable, excellent interface, plays dts and ac3 files, and best of all, smooth playback on ALL files, however, I've found that whenever I try to disable subtitles, they disappear, shortly to reappear, is there a means to disable subtitles during playback?
