If you turn off Norton Antivirus almost everything on your pc will run faster.:D
Norton AV is a notorious system resource hogger and i would disable everything to do with it especially when converting video files etc.
In fact i would completely uninstall it , if you have a back up of course.;)

do you 'need' it to be faster ?
if you need it as fast as poss consider creating a separate cut down windaz partition with NO net access and invisible from the main windaz setup (via Bootmagic or somesuch). then you can tweak the video partition to go as quickly as windaz can.
you on XP or Vista. if on Vista then use XP.
better yet put a linux partition on :)

If on XP then do a search for a free downloadable program called EndItAll2 - it does exactly as the name suggests and stops all the unrequired background programs. But be aware that you should disconnect from the internet/network first to avoid and problems with attack as antivirus/firewall software will be stopped leaving the PC unprotected. Just reboot the PC to get everything running again.

If you can't find EndItAll2 then PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy.

    Mark.

why not just exclude from your virus scanner the video filetypes you are working upon?

It's not the virus scanning itself that can cause issues for average PC's being maxed out with video conversion etc, its the valuable resources that programs like Norton can Hog on you.

Take no notice of the Anti-Norton gang, any AV will slow your system down, its just another chance for their senseless rant.

i fail to see how thats stupid, have you even worked with a computer? i've worked around computers for a very long time and can categorically say that its the slowest, untidiest useless AV suite i have ever had the misfortune to use.

care to give reasons for your clearly opposite viewpoint

Same here. I've been deploying AV suites for years and have never come across any AV software as bloated and cumbersome as the Norton home products (Mcafee comes a close 2nd mind)

It's a shame as the Symantec corporate AV products are superb.

Here it comes, "I'm an expert " "You don't know anything"
I know my way round a computer, I've no need to blow my own trumpet like yourselves,

All the adverse criticism is only your opinion, and I think you're talking out of your backside.

I bet you've not even tried the latest 360 application, all you so-called experts are living in the past, dwelling on earlier Norton products which did have flaws, only the AV program was any good.

I have, and I still declare it bloatware.

Agreed, they should rework SAVCE into the home edition. SAVCE is great.

do you have to resort to belittling people to get a point across, if you can't post a civil reply in this thread than don't.
