recently bought Sex in the City season 1 for the missus and it makes the screen look like its filthy!!!
What is going on???? I cleaned the screen and no difference also does it on bedroom TV. I know NTSC looks less clear on 60HZ sets but this is terrible!!!
Is it due too the DVD? would the R2 disc be better or not, nver noticed it on TV broadcasts though so or PAL or NTSC movies so what is going on?????:(

I think I see something similar on the first two seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer which does seem to have a strange effect on it compared to later seasons - although I always attributed it to the fact that the first two seasons of the show were shot on 16mm film whereas those following were shot on 35mm and look a lot better.

What sort of tv have you got??

Some widescreen 32 - 36" crt tvs (particularly Panasonics) have been known to have an issue with a dirty screen effect.
My own 32" panny has the dirty screen effect and it can be really annoying on certain images, especially light coloured panning backgrounds. I've read its something to do with the shadow mask or something??
