Would like directions advice travelling to Rye (near Hastings Sussex) from the Midlands (Staffordshire) on a Saturday. The routing sites I've tried plot a route direct through London, which I don't find too appealing. So if anyone has any better advice, that would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers...

You can go round the M25 and through the Dartford Tunnel (basically down the M1 and turn left onto the M25 clockwise), then either down the A229 and A21 or down the M20 to J10 and past Ashford on the A259.

Hope this helps, (I used to live in Camber and commuted to London  )

Done a route planner and it is simular to the above using the M20 and after Ashford the A2070 then the A259.

Thanks a lot, will use the M25 as suggested. It then looks like a straight choice of motorway or 'A' road as both look like good options. Would you know if the M20 is likely to be busy midday Saturday? (Thinking about possible Folkestone / Dover traffic)

Not to push my luck too far ;), but we're in the area for a weeks holiday. So if you have any recommended places of interest, please let me know, as this is a part of the country of I've not been before. Cheers.

Recommend Dungeness, (it sounds dodgy but follow signs for the nuclear power station) have lunch at The Pilot pub (wicked) and maybe go on the railway. Also recommend the Pirates caves at Hastings (sounds tacky but is really cool). If you get time go to Fairlight and walk along the cliffs.

The M20 is usually quiet unless the Channel Tunnel or ferries are closed (then they fill up with continental trucks)

Hope you enjoy Rye and make sure you visit Camber - and say hello to the beach for me..
