Digital TV recording

Can someone please tell me how a digital TV, analogue VCR, DVD player and set top box should be connected to allow recording of one digital channel whilst watching another?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You'd watch one Freeview channel on your IDTV while recording a different Freeview channel from your STB connected to an AV input by on your VCR by scart lead.
For a more detailed answer can you report back telling us how many scart sockets each piece of equipment has?

Hi JayCee,

Panasonic TV has 2 scart and 1 component
LG VCR has 2 scart
Philips STB has 2 scart
DVD player has 1 scart.

Current set up is:

Coax aerial to STB, out to VCR then VCR to TV
Scart from STB to VCR
Scart from VCR to TV
Scart from DVD to TV

They can record only analogue channels 1 to 5 and watch any digital channel.
They are now thinking of doing away with VCR, STB and DVD and purchasing DVD recorder with freeview. This should mean they can watch and record anything, shouldn't it?

Yes it would ..[ provided the TV is an IDTV with its own digital tuner ] and it is a good solution.

Note there is another option which may be more convenient and easier to use - namely a PVR... A decent model would permit you to record two digital channels whilst watching a third ... or playing back a recording whilst recording another.
A DVDR can also do the latter but only ever has a single digital tuner.

A PVR cannot save to DVD disc of course... if that matters.
