Digital Optical Switches

Has anyone bought/tried one of the switching units for use with optical cables?

I've seen 3-way switches on the Maplins and Lektropacks 'sites, and they'd be very useful to me as my current AV receiver only has 1 optical input.

To what degree will this kind of switch unit degrade the signal?
