At what kind of length will coaxial start to degrade compared to optical? I was thinking of a 5-6M cable and am not sure whether to go optical or coaxial. My AV amp has a shortage of optical inputs [I'm already using them all] so would coaxial be OK at this length? Is it more prone to interference if the cable is laid close to other cables and electronic equipment?

5-6 M will be fine. As far as interference, you should worry more about the quality and integrity of your D-A/A-Ds in the system.

    regards,
