what happened to this thread??
They removed it for some reason. Sponsors? Mentioning of Mark Grant's digital cables not always the right solution?
I'm afraid both of you are wrong....the thread has been reviewed following blatant plugging and offering of products via PM from 2 persons neither of whom declared an interest in the products they were selling.
One has now declared an interest as a retailer, and the other has been offered the opportunity to do so,but has not yet replied.
Scoobysti will be aware of this,as he was given details of the costs, and was being encouraged to continue via PM.
Everyone is aware of the correct area for sales in the AVForums, and is also made aware of the rules on registering.
The thread will be restored in due course, once both of the retailers have replied.
ooo errr, sounds serious, didnt mean to offend the mods with my thread, was just interested to see what digital cables are being used, i suppose it is hard not to plug cables that they are involved with.
Not serious at all, assuming that everyone bothers to read the rules or is prepared to abide by them.
My point is however very clear in that retailers and manufacturers are welcome,as long as they make it clear to all what their commercial interests are.....this is for the benefit of forum users, and is also to the benefit of those selling goods,as everyone is fully informed.
It is also made clear that the correct area for sales is in the Sales/trades forum, and NOT in any other area.
Whilst one of those involved has now declared his interests, and been invited to do so in his contributions in other threads, the other has not yet done so,and as I indicated before, the thread will be restored as soon as his position has been reviewed.
Ettepet's inference is also incorrect, and I am sure that Mark Grant would find it offensive.
I would refer you both to items 7 and 10 of the forum rules which explain the position on retailers.
I could not find any (to me) valid reason to remove the entire thread. Even explaining things here I find it highly untransparent what goes on at this forum. I put some valuable suggestions in that topic for which I had to search for a considerable time, so I was shocked to see the informative topic gone.
I didn't mean to offend Mark or anyone else. I mentioned it because I have never seen any critique of any of his cables on the entire forum in the past 3+ years. I know some rules are handled more strictly here than elsewhere on the net regarding sponsors and selling so I might have jumped to conclusions. Mark's "digital interconnect" cables are not for everyone I discovered first hand, and if people can express that freely here all the more praise that so few have!
We have way too many dealers / manufacturers here not declaring their full interest here, happily talking about products that are in direct competion to their own or just products they sell. They should all come clean, openly declare their interests. I run a mile if I find anyone has not been completely up front and open, often hiding under the 'i'm a hobbyist as well, or just personal opinions'. When they are open however, following the rules, then I welcome all manufacturers and dealers here and they will get my limited custom in preference to others.
hi-fi is a strange world, it is hard to find an unbiased or truthfull review of kit these days, for example if you where to believe everything 'What sound and vision' has to say we would all have denon in our setups
this is one reason why these forums are a fantastic source of information, because it is real people with real thoughts so i suppose it is in all of our interests to have rules about what gets posted as long as these rules dont inhibit freedom of speech which is what Ettepet was expressing i believe,
any way time to get off my soap-box
going back to the previous thread, ive decided to go for the Chord signature cable, when i can afford it
why don't you try some cables and then make a decision?
So what? Must just mean that his cables are very popular. Do things have to be complained about in order to be valid?
If you took the time to read two lines further I say exactly the same thing.
my problem is there is no-one around Derby who i can try from.
Derby is a bit of a backwater as to regarding Hi-end hi-fi
Nottingham / Underwood / Long Eaton etc etc is blessed with good dealers who would lend you stuff, can't be more than a couple of miles down the A52 Hell, Nottingham even has a few cable suppliers like the missing link, all from memory...
I've borrowed from the missing link; the hardest part is giving it back again... I've not come across any other dealers/maufacturers who lend out cables in Nottm, but most are happy for home dem of kit for a card swipe.
I agree there isn't much hope in Derby!
I've borrowed cables from Nottingham Hifi, Definitive audio, Castle hifi (the Maid Marion way one), Super Fi, Chantry audio, Audio Synthesis and NA studios in the past in that area and some little place in Beeston!!.
blimey, the question is, what have you settled on
im going to ring round tommorrow to see what i can get
Why have one when you can have them all
There's more in Nottingham than I knew of then!
Just as everyone know Cambridge and Huntingdon for AV / mainstream, Nottingham has it's own little group of manufacturers as well. Nottingham Analogue (TT), Art Audio (valve amps), Audio Synthesis (digital / transistor amps), Living Voice (speakers) etc. There is quite a little cottage industry going on around you.
