I am due to re-locate to the states through work in April and would appreciate any info on the differences of the American and UK Ps3 models.

I understand there are differences in power supplies, but is there any other differences and would it be worth taking my 60gb with me or sell it and buy a US model when I get there?

    Thanks in advance.

I would personally sell my 60gb here (due to the profit you would be able to make) and buy one over there. :smashin:

Absolutely. 60gb PS3, console only, £399 in a branch of CEX.

There's actually no Power Supply difference - well, in terms of needing a stepdown. The PSU is multi-voltage so you'll just need any old figure-8 plug - no transformer needed :)

In answer to the question - I'd go for a US PS3 over a UK one without a doubt (and I did, yay!)

Are there any differences with the consoles ie, games, movies, wireless functions etc?

Games are region free so that won't matter, films aren't though so if you do watch a lot of blu-rays it might be beneficial to have a us ps3. :smashin:

Games are region free, most movies are also region free but lately more are being region locked. There is a decent site showing all the locked and free movies from all regions - can't remember the link atm as I'm at work, perhaps someone else can help?

Everything else i.e. wireless, peripherals etc is universal too, so it's pretty much just Movie region-locking you need to be aware of.

Lol yeah, forgot about regular DVDs and also Backwards Compatible games (if you can nab a model that still features it).

Both will be locked to their respective region, but that's already been mentioned now :D

I don't know but one area to watch for is existing, standard definition DVDs.

UK DVDs are not only Region 2 encoded (which you may be able to get around) but also PAL encoded (which you may not), unless a UK PS3 outputs NTSC.

As spy says, the main difference at the moment is what DVDs it'll play. If you plan on taking a load of your UK DVDs with you that perhaps aren't available over there i'd keep the UK PS3. That is if you don't already have an upscaling DVD player/plan to buy a multiregion one.

If however you are making a clean start then sell it and buy one in the US - it'll also give you a warranty as you won't be able to get Sony to fix your UK console if it goes wrong in the states.
