Can anyone tell me the big differences between Marantz SR4400 / SR5400?

Is it worth the extra price?

If you go to Marantz's website, you could be able to compare models pretty easily there. The 5400 is more powerful (10W/channel), has more inputs as well as inputs on the front, a higher SNR, wider frequency response, and component video inputs.

However, the 4400 is available in black or silver.

SO what is the price difference, anyway? It's probably worth it though, simply for the greater number of inputs, and component video...

    Both are...

And sound quality, I hope...

And bass management? I think SR5400 has a more complete management...

Well, here's what I remember from the settings on the 5400:

    - All speakers can be set to large/small/none
    - The subwoofer crossover can be set to 80, 100 or 120 Hz.
    - If the fronts are set to large, you can choose "both" or "mix". Both will play bass through the mains and sub, mix will only play bass through the mains, unless there's a DD or DTS .1 track.

I don't know how much more bass management there is other than that...

As for sound quality, the THD+N specs are the same, I think. Just the SNR is higher on the 5400.

I think the SR4400 has 100 HZ frequency x-over fixed...
