Difference in image quality by replacing lamp?

I've just bought a Sony VPL-CX 10 but I need a new lamp. The one who now is in the projector has done 2600 hours. Sony states to replace the lamp after 2000 hours. The projector still works but I'm not very satisfied with the image. Will there be a big difference in picture quality once I've replaced the lamp? What will be the main difference?

    Thanks again for any info,
