Nothing, Sky simply changed the name of Sky HD to Sky+ HD.

The latest models don't have analogue component but do have coaxial digital, there are differences but as mentioned it was a purely a name change for marketing purposes.

Sorry to hijack the thread (a bit) but do any of you know whether the new HD box is compatible with the magic eye I have in my SD Sky+?

Yes, they all have a powered RF2 output so the TVlink will work fine but again obviously only in SD and Mono audio:)

The reason apparently was not a marketting ploy.

People were not all AV aware enough to realise that an HD box was also a Sky + box and were holding off from getting Sky HD because they did not want to lose the existing functions of the Sky + box.

By calling it Sky + HD it made clear an HD box was a Sky + box PLUS HD and also included the features of the non HD Sky + boxes.

When you read about the Sky HD box it told you it worked like Sky+, but with the added benefit of HD viewing!

Do not forget that Sky + is designed to be used by totally non tech aware people and indeed many customers probably are not even accessing the internet. They will go off first perception of the name.

They are also the ones who were likely to have assumed Sky + and Sky HD were entirely separate.

The term Sky + HD makes clear from first glance that the two boxes are simply an evolution of one to the other like Sky to Sky + was.
