Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade my own 1060 to a 1070 but can't for the life of me understand the difference in models and makes.

For example is the £30 difference between this model:

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC. 1920 Cuda Core PCIE 3.0 8 GB GDDR5 256-Bit Graphics Card - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GVHNW3W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_D6rxybXYBGHNK

And this one:

MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G GeForce 8 GB GDDR5 VR Ready Graphics Card - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GRCYPE6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_w7rxybQAD70YR

Worth it and what is the difference?

Many thanks

James

The only difference is the cooler. There may be more scope for higher overclocking with the dearer one which is 2cm shorter in length but half a centimetre thicker. Also it looks like the cheaper one doesn't have a back plate.

Get the cheaper one it looks nicer anyway.

The key differences is the clock speeds, the Gaming has options to run at higher speeds than the Armour. The Gaming spec of cards from MSI tend to be their fastest in the chip range.
You can do a comparison of specs on the MSI website.

Assuming I just wanted to run at stock and not worry about PC, which would be a good upgrade from a 1060?

Is an upgrade from a 1060 to a 1070 really worthwhile? What is it you want your 1070 to do that your 1060 doesn't? I would be more inclined to hold off a little for the GTX 1170 unless there is a critical reason right now.

That said, I suffer upgraditus like everyone here and sometimes you just need to scratch that itch ;)
