I heard a few months back that the Die Hard Trilogy will be rereleased in June. This will have an anamorhpic transfer and DTS sound.

Has anyone heard any more news about them? Any idea when they will arrive as this June release date is too close as there is no announcement.

    Thanks

I was wondering about this too recently so I checked The Rumour Mill at The Digital Bits. The most recent reference to it was on 15th March where they said that the 2-disc special edition re-releases of all three films were "slated for summer release".

Looks like they're still on the cards but we may have to wait until August. I'm sure they will be worth waiting for though.

June or July, that's from the senior VP at Fox Home Entertainment a while ago. Haven't heard anything to the contrary since.

I hope they released soon, the date I have heard is the 26th June....

The sooner the better, as I have already sold my R4 copies of each...

Yep it's all happening alright - The Digital Bits have confirmed that all three are too be 2-disc S/E with the first one being a "5-Star Edition". All will have Dolby and DTS tracks.

Check out the SWEET covers at DVDFile HERE (scroll down the page a bit ;))

    I cannot wait.

You'll only get all 3 if you get the boxed set though, 2 + 3 won't get a standalone release until later in the year. Which is a shame as DH2 is the only one I want.

    Yippeekiyay...er....chaps :(

    I certainly do :D

No wonder you're a 5 star man. Very good of you to offer. First refusal would be lovely.

    Thanks.

    Okeley Dokely,

Obviously it's a few weeks away yet, I'll get in touch a bit closer to the time. I'll keep checking to see who the cheapest supplier is, if the costs are about the same I tend to use Movietyme.

    Anyhoo, we'll see.

    Glad to help.

    You're a star Confucious :D

Tee, I just never took to the other 2, I'm not really sure why. Maybe because DH 3 I've only ever seen on copies that looked like someone went at them with a big pair of scissors, and the first one , I dunno, my mates all hyped it up as being the greatest action movie ever and I never got over the disappointment when I saw it and didn't think the same. The third was better than the original IMHO but still didn't grab me as a keeper the way No.2 did.
And besides, any film with Franco Nero in it gets 2 thumbs up from me, the guys the coolest. I've worshipped him (well almost) since I first saw Django as a kid. Jeez, I even watch Enter The Ninja cos he's in it. How sad is that???

Rambo, as it happens I'm only after 1 & 3, but I'm happy to order the boxed set anyway. Do you want me to give you 'first refusal' on DH2 when I eventually get it? If not it'll be going up for auction on e-bay so there's 'no pressure'!

I recently purchased the Die Hard trilogy on R1 THX remastered. Am therefore not bothered about DTS and will not be downgrading when/if it arrives. Sorry :D

I found the picture and sound quality on ALL the current R1 THX versions of the Die Hard trilogy to be very poor and also a disapointing non-anamorphic image

    Roll on the new versions

But they were THX approved before Fox had a policy to use HiDef masters and when THX didn't have a proper policy towards dvd.

The new Die Hard discs are have proper THX approval, they have DD5.1 DTS and are anamorphic, created from new HiDef masters.

    Wheres the downgrade ?

THX makes no difference to DVD, at least none that is easily discernable. They have the badge on some of the worst transfers out there, and on few of the very best. It is not an issue like it used to be with LaserDisc. THX on DVD is more of a marketing tactic than anything else.

The new Die Hard transfers are fresh hi-def 16:9 anamorphic, with audio both in DD and DTS. The discs will also have a load of extra material, especially the first (hence the 5 Star thingy). The 'downgrade' comment doesn't make much sense because these discs will be better all round.

The Fox of two years ago when the original DH DVDs were released is not the same Fox as of now. The Senior VP of Fox Home Entertainment is a home theatre fan himself. He understands about quality and he knows what the DVD afficianados like.

Just placed the boxset on pre-order with amazon.com

    The pre-order price is $59.98US, but with GC's I used $29.98US + postage is a much better price :D

I had a $20 GC from a present and used a $10 promo with it and it worked....

There is a $10 off $50 promo one floating around at the moment... but it expires on the 13th May, you can find it here

If there was ever a reason to go R1...

Has anyone else here had the misfortune to buy the R2 version of DH3?

Well, for those that may be too embarrassed to admit it (and were wondering quite what has gone on) Check out Phil Martin's reply to my letter in the latest issue of HCC. And for those without a copy, and considering a purchase, I would quite simply say DON'T! Quite frankly it is a disgrace.

Do you mean the R2 version of DH:WAV or are you referring to the new R1 DH Trilogy release? Sorry if that sounds stupid, but your post didn't make it too clear which you were warning us not to purchase. (I presume DH:WAV, but then I maybe wrong...)
