    Hi there
Can anyone confirm if the DTS sound on the UK edition is ES Matrixed or Discreet?????

The reviews i´ve seen don´t state anything on this matter,so i come to the best place to get it sorted.

    Thankx
    Maggi

I also have an STRDB1080 and the dts and DD track was similarly flagged SURR BACK DECODING, 3/3/1 which is a little confusing as both are matrixed and therefore not strictly 3/3/1. A film like Blade 2 or Gladiator R1 however is correctly flagged by the 1080 as "SB DISCRETE DECODING 3/3/1.
IMO the former are still 3/2/1.
    Any views on this.

Whilst a little strange I think the display on your amp is fine, it is showing the *decoding* method, not the encoding format. This means the claim of 'DECODING 3/3/1' for the EX/ES matrix source is fine, it *is* decoding 3/3/1 even though the encoding is 3/2/1.

As it differentiates the DISCRETE decoding I don't really see that the amp confuses the issue.

On reflection you are probably quite correct.

I bought the R2 version which had DTS 5.1 ES Matrix soundtrack.
Then I found our that the R1 version is DTS ES Discrete 6.1, so I sold my R2 copy and ordered R1 (sad git I know).
The R1 copy arrived today, put it on and bugger me, it's 5.1 ES Matrix also:-(

thought i would give the veloydyne vx10 an intoroduction to this movie. just like the cinema ,the bass was ear bursting!also i found the speech a little to quiet?i only used normal dts, and will test the dolby version shortly, like i said before the dts soundtrack was a little too intense.

    DTS 5.1 ES
    DTS 6.1 ES Discrete.

I defy anyone to tell the difference between the 2 in a blind test. Ideal disc for this is Gladiator or Chicken Run. Both R1 versions are ES Discrete whilst R2 versions are in fact 5.1 ES.

only having 5 speakers and a sub I have no idea what the difference is:
    so what is it??
I assume DTS ES matrix is the 6th speaker is just a mix between left and right behind?
And Discrete: 6th channel is encoded as 6th channel independent of other 2.

    Is the difference actually noticable?
