We've discussed it at length; lets have the final AVF verdict.

Me I thought it was great (if flawed).

Not only did it not suck, it didn't blow either. Loved it, pure Star Wars escapism.

    Star Wars.
Hux was made to look a bumbling fool.
    I'd have liked less jokes.
The other Disney films I preferred.
Everyone is welcome to form their own opinions.

    Acrostic? Maybe... :)

On it's own it's an enjoyable movie.

As Star Wars episode 8 it sucked big time.

Dear Disney. Princess Leia is not Tinkerbell.

Two many jokes, most of which were not very funny. The storyline was all over the place imo.

Had some good points but was too long winded without really going anywhere.

I thought it was great, I was a little worried when people were saying there were too many jokes, but I didn't think there were many more than other Star Wars movies really, they all have jokes or humorous parts in them.

Too many similarities with the original triology for me. And really not buying into Adam Driver at all

Worst Star Wars movie ever made.

The opening scene which is usually iconic, was underwhelming.

The ‘phone prank’ at the beginning of the movie felt so awkward, I thought I was watching a spoof.

Snoke’s character was completely wasted. His CGI form was horrible. Who was he? What was his motive? Complete waste.

Why were there so many scenes with porgs? What did they possibly add to the movie besides comic relief?

The way they portrayed Luke Skywalker was disrespectful. So when he was younger he didn’t want to kill his father, who happened to be the baddest Sith in the galaxy, because he saw good in him. But yet when he grew older, he thought about killing his nephew whilst he slept because he might turn evil? I can’t even begin to express just how ridiculous and awful this characterisation was. They completely ruined Luke Skywalker, but not just ruined, they have basically destroyed his legacy. I mean the scene where Luke drinks milk from that creatures nipple - what the hell was all that about? Johnson is just taking the piss. Luke brushing off his shoulder? I’ve never seen an iconic character destroyed like this. Throwing his lightsaber away like it was nothing? So, so wrong.

So a Star Wars movie with the beloved Leia, C3PO, R2D2 and Chewbacca, yet all these characters were wasted in favour of new and much inferior and poorly written characters such as Rose and Finn?

Leia flying across space was so awkward.

The Casino sequence felt like a scene from a completely different movie.

So Rey became a Jedi in 3 lessons? What??

Worst lightsaber duel in the entire saga.

The film was so boring, especially during the middle section. I can’t believe I was actually thinking about walking out of a Star Wars movie!

The story was such a muddled mess. Too many plot holes. Felt superficial. Nothing really had any substance.

There were too many moments that were supposed to be comedic, but failed miserably. This was worse than a spoof!

This couldn’t have been a worse movie. It’s like the director DELIBERATELY set out to ridicule the Star Wars saga. By far the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had the displeasure of experiencing.

It seems like the message the director was trying to get across was - destroy the past, and in the process he proceeded to destroy the legacy of the previous Star Wars movies. It’s like he hates them! If you didn’t want to add to the existing saga, why on Earth did you have to destroy it? They’ve given you your own trilogy, go tinker with that. He should never have been given Episode VIII.

I walked out of the cinema feeling broken. I was a huge Star Wars fan, but this movie has somehow managed to destroy the saga - so much so I have no inclination to watch episode 9. I never thought I would be saying this.

There are three other review threads on which you could post that rant.

This is the poll. Just a brief comment and a vote will do nicely.

Had I voted straight after watching the movie I would have said it was utterly terrible. I very nearly walked out half way through, glad I didn't as the last half hour was much better. I've mellowed a bit since, thanks to a second viewing and reading some of the comments and articles posted here, but I still don't think it's a good film. I've ticked the 'disappointing' option.

There are a certain contingent of Star Wars fans that need it explained to them that Star Wars is not sci-fi. It's a fictitious religion based fantasy set in a technologically advanced society. Lord of The Rings in space if you will. A director who realises this is free to direct how he pleases and not be limited by the constraints of strict sci-fi. When George Lucas tried to put a scientific basis behind The Force with his metachlorian nonsense he did far more damage than the injection of Raiders of The Lost Ark style humour into the latest Star Wars episode. I liked the humour. I genuinely laughed. The saga of the trials of the Skywalker family down the ages and their struggles with The Force is a heavy heavy thing. The levity introduced in this episode gives one time to take a breather from all the doom and dire consequence. What Luke did with The Force in this film is a new level of awesome in my book. A reluctant but true master Jedi. My only real issue wih the film concerns Snoke and his origins. Maybe this will be tackled at a later date. Who knows.

I didn't think it was a good movie but that might have been swayed by the problems with the story such as the one quoted above, along with other gaping plot holes.

Had a few niggles after watching it, but the more I let it sink in the less they bothered me.
Having watched it a second time on Saturday there is really only one scene which jars a little for me and it is more the way it was done that I thought could have been better rather than the events that actually occurred in the scene that bothered me.

Overall thought it was better than TFA and I enjoyed that immensely.

An excellent addition to the Star Wars saga

Didn't suck, not in the slightest.

Best Star Wars opening and possibly the best finale of the eight films so far.

I'm looking forward to watching it again.

Overall I thought it was much better than 1-3, and more enjoyable than Force Awakens.
    - Not sure about Luke's change of character.
    - There was a lot going on; not sure it was all needed.

A very valid point. The cave scene with Rey on Luke's island refuge springs to mind. What was that all about eh.

I thought that was visually very creative and quite unique in a Star Wars film. Especially the way
all the Rey's were slightly out of sync with each other
    .

I keep forgetting though, we don't want 'new things' in a Star Wars film :nono:.
