When my projector arrived into Dublin I got a call from DHL telling me to have a cheque ready for the delivery guy the next day when he delivered the projector. So I paid over the phone by credit card. They may have insisted that I pay on delivery because I did not have the proojector delivered to my home.

Cornelius, how much in total did you pay for the 10000?

    Regards

About £4300. If you ask Kaneda he (or she!?) will mark the invoice at half the price hence the acceptable VAT.

If the value of the projector is marked down to reduce VAT/GST charges, does that affect the DHL insurance cover?

ie. is the projector only insured for half its value?

Well that's 4 who've had to pay VAT from Japan - surely there must be more from the 10s, if not 100s here who've imported.

Even I had to pay some VAT on mine, & it came from Germany! Before anyone asks - the German VAT wasn't applied there, it was just really "forwarded" from there. Long winded way of doing it I know, but "needs must" as they say.

Approx €300 I too had to pay to Charlie McCreevy (our finance minister!).

Are peeps afraid to admit they've been hit for VAT etc...?

    Just curious :)
