Devore velvet

Hi

This seems to be popular as material to stop the reflection of light around screens etc. I am curious what is it about this material that makes it so special, for instance why would black hessian not be more suitable? Especially given the cost.

Thanks for any info

Hi Simon, I have just finished building my screen using Devore for the border. Until you actually see it it's hard to believe its worth the money. It really does swallow light. I've not seen black hessian but if you have some to compare against Devore then Whaleys will send you a sample so you can see for yourself. I was hoping that Maplin speaker cover would do the trick but now I just use that for the surrounding couple of metres. No comparison.

Cheers. Timmers

Is that all the wall behind your screen?
I have a 3 inch wooden frame that I have wrapped in Devore and The area outside of the frame is all Maplin speaker cloth. Also coming out from the screen wall ceiling and walls is Maplin cloth.

My screen has a velvet frame. I have read that some people have the wall behind the screen in velvet and about 2 meters out on the walls and ceiling.

Do you think it enhances the contrast of your image

Thanks

Yes. Enhanced contrast for sure. It also gives the appearance that the image is floating in blackness. I painted my walls dark red originally. In the process of pretty much painting it all black. Dedicated room with no windows, so no limits.

Thanks. I did request a sample as you suggested, so I will see how I can use it in my setup.
