Devore ... can I stick it to ceiling?

My ceiling height is already compromised in my installation and cant lose any more headroom if I panel devore up and mount onto the ceiling.

Has anyone tried to stick devore to their ceilings and if so what glue did they go with?

Was thinking about this ....

Also there is this super sticky carpet tape, but not sure if I would get sagging areas, so would need to cover the entire section in the tape or at very least much of the roof... :O

Regards.

3M Super 77 Multipurpose Spray Adhesive: strong-bonding, fast-drying glue that you just spray on. Think it up, glue it down!

The devore is very thin, and thus I think you might be better off mounting it on boards before installing on the ceiling. I know you say you are limited on height, but using something like 6mm mdf will not take up much of your headroom , but allow you to keep the devore nice and tight. Just a thought...

Ill do a test patch and see ... ugh .. what was a deocrating job is turning into a rebuilding job

I tried glueing Devore, with no luck. It is much too thin and stretchy. I used a piece of mdf as suggested, I fixed it to the ceiling, then removed it and stretched the Devore around it. I then fitted it back on the ceiling and made tiny cuts with a very sharp blade where each screw hole was. I then screwed it to the ceiling and the screw heads disappeared into the Devore. It seems to have worked well, I'm very pleased with it anyway.
The Devore is incredible stuff, it is really black and does the job brilliantly. It's just very expensive, but worth it. My jet black ceiling paint and walls look dark grey next to it!!

Can i revive this thread pls chaps?

My HC will be slathered with devore, walls & ceiling all round. Walls will simply be devore stretched between a strip of wood at the top to another at the bottom and them stapled.

Ceilings are a different matter. Id prefer to glue it so its smooth to the surface, but Phil had issues with gluing. Are there any other solutions for gluing? Phil, what glue did you use?

3M have a range of spray glues, surely one of them will do the job? Was originaly going to glue it to plywood ceiling, but now am considering using cellotex, foil loft side and glue devore direct to it. 3M do an adhesive that is designed for foam gluing that could do the job- http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediaw...TtoXfEm8z6EVuQEcuZgVs6EVs6E666666--&fn=74.pdf
Mybe this could glue devore to the foam side of cellotex?

Thanks chaps

I could be wrong but i didnt think it was both sides, defo not what ive seen anyway. But how about gluing devore to the foil side...maybe thats an option. I see celotex do a plywood lined insulation...but thats £££!

I've spent the past 6 months installing the stuff. I'm afraid you are :)

I assume we are talking about the normal PIR boards - there may be something else they sell that has, but I've not seen any to date.

I'd have thought you'd struggle to get a glue to fix it well enough to foil and Devore.. I'd suggest a sheet of plasterboard underneath the celotex and then gluing onto that. You can get insulated plasterboard but it is more expensive.

I've done this and fixed it with 100mm drywall screws through the insulation - haven't covered it with Devore though...

Back to wood then!

I am trying to achieve; heat insulation, sound insulation and a surface that devore will glue to. Will scrap the celotext idea as i hadn't considered the consequences of its low mass- it wont help with sound leakage. I live in a detached house, some 500m away from my neighbours but a playing field is close to the HC and i want not to have so much leakage that I'm advertising to dog walkers and snogging teens that there is desirable equipment inside.

So maybe go back to plywood or... maybe chipwood or blockboard or mdf? something dense but cheap. plywood isn't so cheap, but what is most dense?

Gluing to wood shouldn't be too difficult, i have a sample here that i will try gluing with contact adhesive...
