It makes sense.

update from yesterday , she thinks I am catastrophising ( is that even a word lol ) a lot of things , and when I think about it , I am , a lot , if I can't control something in any way , what worry about it , that's the hard part though .......
It sounds a bit like what Kav's post was touching on, it does sound hopeful though, as you may be one of the lucky ones that can actually do something about your depression

I am not making light of it, as it is still a very hard journey ahead of you, but it does sound as if learning to think and act in a different way may be the solution, or at least a part of it...Much easier said than done though I know, has CBT been mentioned?

CBT was mentioned at the beginning , she said everyone that who is referred to her is told CBT but she makes her mind up which way to go , so , i'm not really sure how I am being treat lol , I'll need thread up on CBT to see what that entails , thanks .....

I had problems for a long time then I was hit hard with flu early last year which turned out to be an unpleasant blessing.
Blood tests showed a chronic vitamin B12 deficiency so I get darted every twelve weeks, it has made a massive difference physically and mentally now I understand why I wasn't able to exercise properly which lowered my confidence.
Now I am slowly starting to cook from scratch instead of ready meals etc.
Things like this are sneaky.

were / are you a drinker ?

The writing stuff I described previously is basically CBT. I highly recommend you try that ABC approach. Like anything, it's hard to start with but gets easier the more you do it.

I have mentioned getting checked for vitamin deficiencies, it's a lot more common than most think.

I did the same as you are doing, my diet was a joke when I was younger. I found one the my best buys was a large slow cooker, I now make all sorts of of soups & stews etc...I also now eat a lot of oily fish. Like you I get darted regularly (Megaloblastic anemia), and along with changing my diet & some exercise I can honestly say it has worked wonders for me. I now choose to not take medication and manage myself this way.

Whats that old saying...We are what we eat.

No, just pushed myself too hard too often plus moving around so much, difficult to settle down properly.
Now I am focused on sorting out my early retirement and getting fit enough to get out, eventually finding one or two things to get involved in.
They'll have to pry Dorset out of my cold dead hands :D

as I said previously I have been a life long drinker , that's where my vitamin deficiency has come from , didn't need injections though , been taking tablets and the levels are back to more or less normal , I was absolutely ruined from the point of trying to stay awake when they were low !!!!

so , another day , i've always enjoyed top gear ( except when that ginger bloke was on ) , the new series started last night , just watched it and I realised that even that programme hadn't been making me laugh , until I watched this episode , I found it genuinely funny yet I haven't for a while now , something is happening , be it the tablets kicking in or the talking to the counsellor thing ............

nervous day tomorrow , got to go to work and see the company doctor , need to think very carefully how I word things and what I actually say ......

Good luck. Why not write it down now to get things straight in your head?

In that case that will be £50 please :D

It has been drawn on a piece of paper :D

Just my luck :D

Earlier last year I went to see a lady who specialises in alternative medicine. My Dad organised it and at the time I was desperate. I had spent 6 weeks having 10-20 seizures a day which had also turned into paralysis... Not being able to talk is enough to make me try anything. Anyway, after suffering 16 years with this condition which had decided to progressively get worse and make me bed ridden I was ready for anything.

This lady was amazing. She noted I was severely lacking in certain vitamins and minerals and my body needed a break from certain food groups. For 2 weeks I stuck to the diet and vitamins and it made a huge impact. By impact I mean, in 4 months I have only had one very minor episode which is amazing due to my situation which should be enough to cripple me! It told me alot about how our bodies do need these vitamins and minerals to help us.

My Dad has given up the booze after years of abuse and is now having severe problems sleeping. He's off to see her tomorrow to see if she can help him. I'll update if it works and maybe it will help someone else. I am so pleased I went to see her. I'm not 'cured' but back under control. My seizures are part of a mental health disorder rather than physical ie, epilepsy so the doctors couldn't help me.

I found out I had severe B12 deficiency after blood tests with not recovering properly from flu.
The difference getting periodic injections has changed a lot of things.

that's me to tee to be honest , the sleeping thing is getting ridiculous to be honest , and the vitamin deficiency came from the drinking , now the drinks gone , the vitamins are ok but the sleep is ruined

I spoke to him today and he's feeling better. Been prescribed loads of different things, similar to me after my consult. I'm hoping this is him giving it up for good... Doesn't help that we was brewing it himself!!!

Hope everyone is OK today. I had my second counselling session today and after I felt the need to write things down and help understand myself a bit better... Well, without knowing it, nor wanting to, I opened the door I've refused to open... Turns out it wasn't as bad as I thought. Turns out I'm doing better than I give myself credit for an now just need to reprogramme a few thought processes, especially when it comes to relationships. I am at 80% of being true to myself and now need to work on the 20%... Getting there though

Well done

that’s great to hear , if it goes the same way as my counselling then you will find yourself opening up more and more as the weeks go on , iirc I’ve had 5 sessions now and every week I can feel positivity returning , despite all the years of thinking about giving up drinking and not doing it , it has to be the best ever thing I have done for my health.
I’m now understanding how bad I actually was with it.
Please keep at it and let us know how you are getting on

This may be of interest, a potential link between gut health & mood. All covered in the first 8 mins with a link to more info.

When I had an endoscopy done the gastroenterologist happened to be a professor doing research into psychobiotics and she tried to explain the role of gut bacteria sending signals along the vagus nerve which affect mood, although it was a bit beyond my GCSE level knowledge of Biology!

She recommended taking probiotic supplements (started off with Align / Alflorex and alternated with some different strains in the years since) and they do seem to have taken the edge off my depression and anxiety somewhat.

There seems to be a lot of research to back this up.
