Picked up a Denon 3805 on the way home from work this evening. Got it home, out the box and began to cable the thing up.
Arghhhhh. The speaker terminals won’t accept banana plugs.

What a palaver, I had to take the plugs off all my cables and start trimming the cables to fit in the binding posts. The whole thing looks a mess!
I hate bare wire connections! It makes things a right pain when trying to make any changes to the installation and there’s a greater risk of causing a short from stray cable filaments. It wouldn’t be so bad if the binding posts on the amp were of a decent quality, but they aren’t. Once I had a few cables in I was finding it hard to actually screw down the binding posts due to the cables being in the way! :thumbsdow

Any of you folks know how I could get the amp to accept 4mm banana plugs???

The 3805 does accept 4mm banana plugs. All you need to do is remove the little plastic inserts that are blocking the plug's entry. Honestly I really do wonder where common sense has gone these days.

Actually Crusty it's not that easy. I got a 2805 & had the same problem. Even with thin nosed pliers it's nigh on impossible, in fact in my case it is impossible, to pull the bloody things out.

Any suggestions as to what will get them out?

    Thanks

    Paul

I'm told a corkscrew would do it, just screw through it as if you were pulling a cork!

A small flat head screwdriver. Just pop them out. :)

    Hmmm.
I can't see any inserts at all. The speaker terminals have a hole in the end, but this seems to be filled. There is no insert protruding that I can take out.
    Bugger!!

That's what you have to pop out. Try a small screwdriver and just lever them out gently.

Not gutted anymore - thanks to the help here I've managed to get the inserts out. Used a flat blade jewelers screwdriver I had
Now all I've to do is fit the banana plugs back onto all my cables :thumbsdow

I must admit that this baffled me when I first got my 3805  I think I was a little afraid of breaking something by shoving a screwdriver down the speaker terminals. But once I was sober I did it in 5 minutes ;)
