When I turn on my denon AVR (X2200W)from standby mode it comes on with no sound, it then has to be switched off at the wall socket and then switched back on again to get sound, any ideas?

It may be a relay problem. You should hear an audible click just after turning on. Do you switch off at the mains or leave in standby?

I leave it on standby, I,ve just tried it a few times and seems to be working fine now, it looks like this only happens when the unit is cold, i.e. first thing in the morning.

Sounds as simple as a dry joint, common in high heat kit as it gets older. Unfortunately, what is rarely simple is finding the problem joint.

This is what the old 'just thump it' technique fixes and the jolt from the mains could be causing a tiny arc at the rogue joint and it fuses together, breaking again when it gets cold. Same principle as thumping a dead light on a car fixes it for a while.
