Denon SD500

I have the above system that is quite old now but wasn't cheap at the time so would I get any improvement in sound quality or features with a newer system, something like a Yamaha YHT199. I cannot compare 2 systems without buying the new one which might have inferior performance so any advice would be appreciated.
