    Hi All

Having just splashed out on a new plasma and amp, we're looking to add 5.1 speakers to the package!

I've read all the rave reviews on here about Canton, but a friend has recommended the Denon SYS-550SD set up. His dad just bought them and he was blown away by the quality and sound....

Wondering which is better? Considering the power buy on here, I think the CD1 package is cheaper, but the Denon's are not extortionate either. I guess, from reading today, I like the idea that we can go CD1 from Canton to start with and then if we want to go 6.1 or even 7.1 it's just a case of buying the extra speakers. I'm not sure there are any individual speakers available in the Denon range...

My other half likes the look of the Denon's, I'm not so sure. He likes the fact that they're really small, but I think the Canton's are pretty small too, right?

I think I read somewhere that the Canton's come in Silver, Black and Beech - am I right? Or are they only silver or black?

    Thanks
    Ruth

P.S. Probably should mention that we have the Yamaha 750SE amp!

canton CD1 are silver and black Aluminium..the denon is an all in one system so doesnt require an amp and isnt very expanable, keep the AMP buy some speakers and buy a DVD player

    Hi HD

I'm sure I've seen the Denon speakers in a package by themselves, but as you say, they're not very expandable.

I'll have to chat with the other half tonight! I think he quite liked the look of the Denon's and liked the wood effect of them. Considering we bought the black Panny, I'd say that maybe the black CD1 set would be a better buy?

    Cheers
    Ruth

I'm also wondering about which of these two sets of speakers to buy.

The Denon speakers alone are advertised at Peter Tysons for £219, so they are a bit cheaper than the Cantons.
I've seen the Denons in a shop and they are pretty cool looking. The subwoofer is very original. The Cantons look pretty boring in comparison.
But looks aren't everything and I've not heard either of them so can't really compare the sound quality.

( by the way it is the Denon 500 that is an all in one, the Denon 550 has seperate amp and DVD player for the extra money you pay)

I'd be interested to know which you go for and why, it may help me decide on which ones.

I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow and post it here unless anyone beats me too it.

They are small, heavy and classy. You should see the CD100s all in black :D

Cheers Ray, I can only find the silver ones on the net. Do you have the Canton stands for the satelites? - I presume these only come in silver, I was just wondering how they would match?

Well I took some pics this morning, brought my camera to work, plugged in the USB cable and .... my battery went flat and it refused to load them ! DOH!
Will upload them tonight when I get home.

RE: stands - speak to Jake James re colours. Mine are all wall mounted at the rear so I didn't need stands.

Pics of black CD10s attached (including my hand to show how small they are). Pics not the best - they look better in the flesh.

Cheers for the pics. Dumb question, but is the subwoofer black as well?

Has anyone got an answer if you can get the stands in black?
