    Hi All

Can anyone tell me if the Denon Link is vastly superior than the 6 Ch Analogue Inputs for listening to DVD-A and/or SACD?

Is it worth spending the extra money?

Also, when using the Denon Link for listening to DVD-A and/or SACD does the amp display things like the number of channels in the input stream, ect.

    Thanks

    Guy

Down to your opinion mate. I prefer the Analog sound connection myself. Why should you need to spend any money? If you have the Amp and DVD player the cable for DL is in the box DVD IIRC. If you mean spending money on Analog cables well all I can say is if you intend to try it don't skimp on the quality of the cables you use. I spent around £460 on the cables I use. DVD Audio currently does not work over DL so you need Analog cables if you want to listen to it right now. If you do use the DL the amp does show the channels being decoded and output.

Thanks for the reply. Basically I was thinking of either the AVR-2805 & DV-2910 or the AVR-3805 & DV-3910. The Denon Link was one of the extra feature on the latter two and I was wondering whether it would produce better results when listening to DVD-A and SACD than the 6 Ch Analogue Inputs .

DVD Audio works over Denon Link, the only thing that doesn't is SACD and that's due to be rectified very soon. Denon have now got permission but are just sorting out the upgrade process.

    Hi Guy,

I use an A1SR amp( just recently upgraded to DL 3 ) and an A11 DVD (hopefully upgraded soon). I notice a marked improvement in detail when listening to CD,s and DVD-A discs through the Denon Link.

It was explained to me a while ago that the digital information gets passed between the two at a relatively fast (bandwith?)rate, thus keeping jitter (noise) low. If you are not amplifying noise then more of the detail can be resolved.

Sounded plausible to me and is certainly proved by the enhanced performance IMO.

The benefit of only one cable is also a major plus.

I,ve also recently read that HDMI and Firewire don,t fare as well as the DL.

    Hi Jase,

In the May edition of HI FI News they have carried out a test of the new top of the range DVD-A1XV. Although measuring a small reading, they still talk about "jitter" through the Denon Link.

It's supposed to be jitter free, so not sure what's the score there to be honest.

anybody know when the sacd dl upgrade will be released.

do you think you will be able to tell the difference, when I posted on this subject a few months ago the opinion then was that with good quality analogue leads it would sound the same
