Just found out from Denon that early players need to be returned to Denon for the firmware upgrading so that SACD can be carried over the Denon Link.
My player was free from Denon after they messed up my A1 after it was sent for repairs, to be now told that such a new player has to go back beggers belief.
Apparently later models (and we're talking a few weeks here) can be upgraded via firmware (i have the region free firmware and this firmware if anyones interested).

Have to say im disgusted with Denon - their customer service is non-existent

thats a fantastic dvd player, andy . I had the denon 2900 and was never impressed by denon after sale service, it went back for repairs and it took almost 7 weeks. I got a replacement. Sold it and will never buy denon again!!

    Hi Andy,

Can you clarify? Do you have the f/w that will upgrade the A1XV to DL3? How casn you tell which models it will work on, and is it Region Free?

Sorry for the questions, but I'm very interested.

    Cheers :)

All i've been told is that the very early models can not be upgraded via firmware. Due to Denon messing me around with my A1 i believe i was one of the first to get one in the country. 4 other people i know got one the same month from the same dealer and have been told the same. I will speak to the dealer later today to clarify.
As for the firmwares, i have 2, one is to make the player region free (from a Denon rep) and the other is to upgrade the firmware to Dlink3.
    Hope this clarifies

You'll be pleased to hear that Denon just revealed a new firmware upgrade for the DVD-A1XV on the Berlin IFA, which allows the player to output 1080p. Not bad...
