Which one of these two DVD players provides better audio and video quality?
So which one would I click if I thought the Arcam had better audio, but the Denon better video?
Then you don't vote and say that in your post.
By the way, can you hack the Denon DVD-3800 so that it can play all region DVDs?
surely add the Denon 2800 mkII into the equation/ vote since it is the same as the 3800 in video & dvd performance terms.
just the dvd-audio side that is the difference.
and multi-region too according to our NZ spies.
Not quite true.
The 3800 shares the same decoder chip as the A1. I think the 2800 is using the same ESS decoder as the mkI.
Can't recall where I read this, but I think it is up oon the US Denon site somewhere.
hmm.. the spec looks virtually identical apart from the dvd-audio side of things as you'd expect.
looking at http://www.denon.com/catalog/products.asp?l=1&c=4
as you say, the only difference above this is listed as "New ESS Vibratto ES6038F MPEG/DVD-Audio Decoder"... but again this is listed for dvd-audio reasons. the 2800 mkII is just going to be a similar chip minus the dvd-audio capabilities. I doubt there is much difference.
the DACs and all the other video processing circuitry described are exactly the same.
Thanks for the replies.
But what are your views on "Arcam DV88 vs Denon DVD-3800"?
