    Hi to all,
I have a Denon DVD-3800 and during the firmware update (I download it from DVD-3800 unofficial web site) something goes wrong. Now my DVD is completely died. The firmare CD is still in the tray and the Eject button dosn't work.
There is another way to update the firmare using serial cable and PC?
Plese help, my last chance is to send it back to the dealer.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

Sorry mate, but I'd say you've killed it, and it will have to be returned to the manufacturer.
I know a DVDA1 that was killed in the same way.

I'd guess the firmware you've tried to install is either for a US version, or a later/earlier version of the UK 3800.
There appear to be many different firmware versions around for the 3800 and A1. Use the wrong one and there's a good chance you'll kill it.

Its best to get the firmware from your dealer, who you can blame it on if it goes wrong.

In the meantime, I'd take it back and deny everything.
If your very careful, you might be able to surgically remove the mod disc left in it to remove the evidence. But use the right size/type screwdriver to ensure the screws are not marked in the process.

Some people might say leave it alone, and maybe they're right, but I'd have ago!

I got the European version, so probably the firmware is't compatible. I suggest you to post a warning message to your site, to avoid other european peoples do the same mistake.
Thanks for your support, I'll try to remove the disk and send it back.

    Ciao

    Hi waveform,

Just to clarify, I don't run any website.
As a Denon DVDA1 owner, I'm just lending a helping hand, 'cos a similar thing happened to me.

    Jules.

    waveform,

Sorry to hear about your bad news...

Just to set the record straight a little, the firmware on my website (www.geocities.com/denon3800) does indeed work 100% and I have had many people use it across UK, european and US 3800's - I have even used the firmware on my own player with no problems and the files are bit for bit the same as firmware available on other sites...

As the site does say, doing so is at your own risk and if you are in any doubt then you should really get your dealer to do the upgrade as the owness is then on them in the event of problems.

I think you have been very unlucky, but DIY is a little risky on a £1000 machine - I would guess that the likely reason for problems could be a badly recorded CDR (did you used good media and ensure you burnt at the slowest speed possible???), somehow the firmware was extracted corrupt or written corrupt or you didn't follow the instructions 100%...not really sure, it could be several reasons

I am sure others can vouch for the validity of the firmware on my site and just wanted to ensure others could feel confident in the fimware source if they are willing to accept the risks involved with any firmware update process...

    Darth,

My player came back with exactly the same firmware as when sent (i.e. PALP, MR) so you should be fine...if not, I would imagine the same firmware update will be OK as to my knowledge the chroma firmware fix isn't affected by the PALP/MR firmware on my site...as ever, if in doubt get your dealer to do the upgrade and you can then blame them!!! ;)

One thing to note though is that all the settings under "setup" will be back to default so make sure you note settings down if you have made lots of setup changes

Thanks for the confirmation chaps - didn't think I was alone ;)...

I am not trying to be defensive, I just wanted to ensure people who are thinking about taking the risk and upgrading the firmware could at least rely on the source...:) :)
